Why I hate televangelists

Let's see.

Besides this guy,

"Yes, Allah willing, we will strike down Chavez. And the
streets will run with the blood of the communist
sympathizers. Allah willing."

can you think of anyone else who invokes the name of God and then suggests murder?

Anyone?

Gotta wonder about anyone that uses God's name to try and talk people into killing other people.

The real crusades did it quite frequently. That was their purpose to kill all the people in "their" holly land and take it back. They were fools, and I know I over summarised some but hey ya get the point.

Yeah, I agreee with Marshall (WTF?!? Never thought I'd say that) the Crusades were completely down with killing in Gods name.

The Spanish Inquisition (NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!! Our first weapon is suprise, surprise and fear......OK our TWO weapons are..) was good at that also.

I think it's all that wine they are drinking in Gods name.

"Dude, hit me with some more of that 'BLOOD OF CHRIST' Wink wink. LOL. God rocks!!"

You imply that using God and murder in the same thought is a bad thing. Is it really all that bad?

I just wish that we'd decide what God is supposed to be. If he's a God of peace, turn the other cheek and all that, fine.

If he's a vengeful God that feeds on the blood of our enemies, fine.

But people who say "love thy neighbor" out of one side of their mouth and then "we need to kill people" out of the other piss me off.

It's like that subliminal man sketch that Kevin Nealon did on SNL. But not at all funny.

It's remarkable. With the precariousness that religion finds itself in this doesn't help. Religion has been a force of good, believe it or not, by simply codifying the moral codes humans had devised over centuries prior to its organization. Religion helps to keep in check man's vices. But like anything built by humans, it is subjected to human flaws. In contemporary times, secularists and postmoderns in general, keep beating religion down by referring to the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition (which was a counter-Reformist movement) and Jesuit Missionaries. Never mind that these events and moments took place centuries ago, but it was incredibly complex. Pigeonholing an institution like the Church about two or three episodes seems a little excessive to me. Today, on the other hand, we in the West, are slowly killing ourselves literally with our negative birthrates thanks to our secularism and disinterest in the family unit. Futhermore, just like in history, Islam is knocking on the door trying to simultaneously take advantage and destroy pluralism and other cherished modern notions bequeathed by the Enlightenment - specifically the French version based on reason. We have gone, to close this long winded note, to the other side. What happens? We take drastic measures. The War on Terrorism is a drastic response to a problem that had long been neglected (if not rewarded). There is room for religion in our lives in moderation and in private. America is correct to believe so. Guys like Robertson, however, don't help their own causes. It was an incredibly stupid thing to say. It unfortunately marks Christianity. Then again, what do I know? I'm going to watch an A-Team rerun.
